Fire At Will: Your Book Launch

Like a bullet, you want your book launch to hit hard and fast, author. I know I’m rooting for you! But what can you do to make your launch as successful as possible?

First things first: set clear goals. What do you want to achieve with your book launch? By setting clear goals, it makes it easier to craft a plan around them and measure your success.

Who is your target audience? By clearly defining who your target audience is, you can utilize their demographics, favorite genres, online habits, and where they get book recommendations to your advantage. By slowly integrating yourself and your book into the places they frequent, you are setting yourself up for success.

Work backward from your launch date and create a timeline. Typical timelines start 3-6 months before the launch, allowing time for pre-orders, reviews, and building excitement around your book. Plan key actions for each week or month leading up to the launch.

Develop engaging content around your launch. Set up a plan to slowly reveal your book such as cover reveals, sneak peeks, character spotlights, or author insights. You want to build anticipation around your book through bite-sized pieces at a time.

Make sure your author brand and your unique hashtag are consistent with every piece of content you share. Social media is very video-driven these days, consider making a book trailer to help promote your launch.

Most importantly, prepare a media kit and make sure your website is current and up to date. Your media kit needs to include: your author bio, professional headshot, book synopsis, high-resolution book cover, and pre-written press releases or Q&A sheets.

Be sure to steady your aim, author. You want your path to hit dead center on a successful launch. Take a breath and get planning, you got this!
