Booked and Bothered

How long is your to-do list, author? I know mine is about 10 miles long and grows every day. Even with everything on it, I know I’m forgetting something. How bothersome is that nagging feeling?

How booked are you, author? Is your schedule cram packed? I know mine is. It seems there is never a moment to truly rest.

We all want to be booked solid. (Personally, I’d rather be booked in my personal library, with nothing to do but read.) Productivity means we are moving forward with our goals. But seeing a calendar filled with commitments can be formidable. When will you find time to sleep?

I know I talk a lot about staying busy, keeping your hands moving, and always looking forward. But at a certain point, it can become overwhelming. This is a reminder to take a break every now and then to reset.

When was the last time you went for a walk? Read for pleasure? Did some self-care? Sat down and did nothing? If you can’t remember, you are overdue for a break, author.

Plan a mini staycation where you tackle the biggest obstacle: taking care of you. You can still be semi-productive while you take a break (if that’s bothering you). Utilize planning apps like Buffer or Meta Business to schedule posts in your absence. Be sure to let your followers know you are taking a break, either with a pinned post or an addition to each scheduled post. That way when you don’t respond, no one will think you’ve abandoned your profiles.

While productivity and staying active on social media IS important, you can’t be your best self while burning the candle at both ends. At some point, you will run out of energy. So, take a deep breath, tackle the most pressing issues, and set some time aside for yourself. You are your most important person, after all, author.
