Collaboration with other authors can take you places and put you front and center to new audiences. Wouldn’t that be grand? So how do you do it?
Reach out to other like-genre authors. It's easy to send a quick email or DM asking if they have an interest in collaborating with you. It could be as simple as a joint post, a cross promotion, or a something bigger. There are so many opportunities!
Once you connect with the right authors, make sure you cooperate. You don’t want to leave someone else with all the heavy lifting; this is a joint operation. So, make sure you have the energy to commit to a collaboration, whatever form it may be. Dropping the ball could leave a bad impression and prevent future opportunities.
There are other possibilities to connect as well. What about a local library event? Reach out to other local authors and get the ball rolling. What about a group discussion? That could be in person or live streamed.
Podcasts are another great way to connect. Don’t be afraid to reach out and see if they would be interested in having you as a guest. Same with book review and recommendation accounts. They have a different audience than you currently do, and you want to be in front of them.
To reap the benefits of collaboration, you must reach out, author. Start small and work your way up. You won’t know until you try!
