January Assessment: Digital Footprint

The start of the new year is a great time to do an assessment of your author platform.

As daunting a task that might seem, it can be simple and easy if you take things one step at a time. Most importantly, a regular assessment of your presence, author, is crucial to maximize your brand and your book(s).

Assess your website. Is everything up to date? Your headshot, bio, list of current works and where to buy them are the first obstacles. Then make sure all of your links are active and redirecting correctly. Your newsletter signup and contact information may need adjustments. Your blog may need a refresh, too. Double check that your social media information is accurate as well.

Assess your social media accounts. Follow the same steps: make sure everything is up to date, links are all working correctly, your profile photo is current, and that your bio is accurate. Tweak each platform to best represent you and your brand for current, new, and potential followers. Facebook, Instagram, and the app formerly known as Twitter all have slightly different forms of interactivity. If you are stumped, check out the profiles of some of your favorite authors to get inspiration.

Assess your platforms where your book(s) can be purchased and reviewed. Make sure the information is accurate and that the links work correctly, especially if they are leading back to your website. Take the time to go through reviews and pull your favorites for later use on your platforms. This is something that is good to do year round, even once a month.

If you have other digital avenues you utilize, do a check-up on those too. It is so important to make sure that everything is accurate and up to date, author. You don’t want to miss out on any potential, in any form. Taking the time to perform these tasks is beneficial, and you will see the positives, even if it takes some time.
