It’s a whole new world, author! But are you discoverable?
Your most important presence is your online presence. Anyone who has an internet connection will be able to search for your website and/or your social media accounts. That’s a lot of potential fans.
Your website needs to be optimized for discoverability. When was the last time you updated your SEO? Are you using keywords in your headers and body text? Do your website links work on your social media accounts? These are all extremely important aspects to make sure you are discoverable. If your links don’t work, potential fans won’t give it a second chance; they will move on. Don’t let that happen.
What about your social media accounts? How discoverable are they? You have to post regularly and consistently, author. If you’re not doing that, potential fans and followers will think you’re not active and will not hit the follow button. Hashtags are your friend! Create a hashtag that is unique to you and your brand and use it on every post.
How about your books, author? Do you make it easy for readers to find your books? One way to do so is to make a list on your website and social media accounts of everywhere readers can find your books: the library, Kindle, Amazon, etc. with working links (where applicable). You can even suggest that they reach out to their local library or independent bookstore and ask if they can stock your book. How much more discoverable will you be then?
Like an explorer, you are setting sail on uncharted waters. Look at fellow authors and see how they navigated treacherous seas. Don’t be afraid to ask your peers for help. Do everything in your power to make yourself discoverable.
