What Does Your Path to Success Look Like?

Success has always been touted as a straight path, with a few bumps in the road, that ultimately leads to a glowing treasure of fame and fortune. As wonderful as that might sound, we know that it is not a smooth and direct path.

Think of your path to success in smaller steps. Looking at the big picture can be overwhelming and lead to an inability to act. Break it down, step by step, for what you want to accomplish. Lists are a great starting point. Once you have the basics, expand on each point.

Do you have a website? If not, make that priority number 1. Steps for your website include: a welcome page, a landing page to sign up for your newsletter, a bio (with a headshot that is recent), a book page with links to buy your books, and contact page.

Newsletters are a great way to share longer updates with your audience, sneak peeks of your published works, work in progress, and so much more. Keep those subscribers close.

What about social media? You should aim to be on at least two platforms. Which platforms are your readers on? Those are the platforms that you need to show up on.

Once you have the basics, start looking into the more subtle aspects like marketing. Book marketing is one of the most important stepping stones to your book’s success. This will not happen overnight or be perfect the first try. You must commit and be ready for a few hiccups.

Putting yourself out there is one of the most important parts of success, author. No one can buy your books or support you if they’ve never heard of you or can’t find you. If this seems impossible, consider hiring a social media manager who will help build your social presence.

For many, the path to success will be a winding trail with obstacles, self-doubt, breaks, and some soul-searching. For some, it will be a steep staircase with no handrails. Occasionally, it will feel like white water rapids. If success was so easy, everyone would be a famous millionaire. Your path will be different from everyone else. Be sure to enjoy the journey, author, no matter how daunting it may be.
