Check One, Two: Podcasts and You

Congratulations on being scheduled as a guest on a podcast, author! Podcasts are an incredible opportunity for you to reach new audiences, gain more fans, and build relationships. Take advantage of this to further your own goals.

Once you are scheduled for an interview, do your research again. Pay close attention to the questions the hosts ask authors. Practice your own responses to those questions over and over. Write your own questions you want them to ask, and practice answering those. They might not ask those specific things, but you can always sprinkle in parts of those answers.

Be prepared to answer questions. The host will ask you a variety of questions about your work, your expertise, your writing, your experience, and about you. Spend some time thinking about your responses to these categories. You don’t want to be unprepared as a guest.

Don’t forget to make sure your social media accounts and website are up to date before your interview. You will most likely gain a lot of engagement and traffic after it is published, and you want your digital presence to be strong.

Make sure to promote your appearance as much as possible. Check with the host about what you can and can’t share before the interview happens and before it is published. If they have strict rules, make sure you follow them. You don’t want to accidentally ruin your chances for repeat interviews.

Most importantly, be your genuine self, author. While practicing your responses is highly recommended, being in the moment and presenting who you truly are is what an interview like this is all about. It is supposed to be fun, so have fun!
