Speed Limits are Suggestions: Driving Traffic to Your Website

Speed, speed, speed! Everything moves so quickly these days. Memes that were popular last week are history this week. A viral video that had over 1 million views is now sitting on the sidelines while today’s hottest video is circulating like recycled air. Speed is, of course, of the essence, but don’t forget that working too quickly can have adverse effects.

You want to share content multiple times a week on social media, ideally 5 to 6 times per week. With stories and other temporary uploads you want to aim for once or twice per week to maximize engagement. You can utilize all posts to include a link to your website, hopefully cementing your URL into your followers and potential reader’s heads.

Instagram and TikTok both have follower requirements for adding “swipe up” links to stories, 10,000 and 1,000 respectively. However, if you have an Instagram Business account, they are removing that follower requirement if you are a verified account. Consider creating a story that links to a video, driving traffic semi-directly to the link you want followers to see. A little convoluted, but an option nonetheless!

One way to entice readers to head to your website is to give them a sneak peek of something exclusive to your website. Direct them to sign up for your newsletter as long as they are there.

Don’t be afraid to make a couple of updates to your website (new headshot, updated bio, new graphics, etc.) and let your followers know you made some changes.

As you work towards being a speed demon with content and updates, don’t forget to hit a rest stop every once and a while to fuel up. You can only run on empty for so long.
